Are Your Sustainability Efforts Stuck Between Ambition and Action?

Whether your thing is reducing carbon emissions, cleaning up the oceans, defending biodiversity, eliminating poverty, making waste circular or some other social or environmental challenge – sustainability is a complex issue.

You’ve probably got ambitious targets like net zero emissions, zero waste or going circular.

But … you are finding that progress is difficult, attracting the right resources and investment is a constant struggle, stakeholders are dug into positions and the status quo feels impossible to change.

Without the right tools many sustainability efforts start off with positive beginnings but eventually get stuck and are unable to scale.

New 1 Day Circular Economy Kickstarter Course Coming Soon

Our Circular Economy Kickstarter workshop is coming soon where you will learn how to turn your circular economy ambitions into actionable projects so you can start kicking some circular economy goals!

In this workshop you will:

  • Get hands on experience in systems thinking tools;
  • Discover how to quickly identify circular economy opportunities;
  • Understand the data you will need to track and report on your circular economy outcomes; and
  • Map out a plan to develop your own Circular Economy Action Plan.

By the end of the workshop you will know how to move your circular economy objectives from ambition to action.

Our Work

Here are some exampes of projects that have used a combination of our workshops and programs to make real impact in the world.

Unlocking the Value of Solar Panel Waste

In this project we created a new whole-of-supply chain business model and secondary marketplace to divert serviceable decommissioned solar panels from landfill for reuse in community solar gardens.

Behavioural Science to TV Show

We worked with the New South Wales Government, CSIRO, and the Co-operative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living to develop a behaviour change program with the objective of getting consumers to build more sustainable housing – the result was an award winning lifestyle TV show.

The Urban Farming Hub

In this project we helped researchers from the University of Sydney to develop a strategy to progress their urban farming research towards commercialisation.

You’ll be in Good Company

Here are some of our awesome clients.

Here’s what some of our clients have to say

Working in the highly competitive solar market both Energy Matters, our extensive network of professional installers and technology partners experience very real challenges with cutting through the noise and reaching consumers in an engaging way. The Blue Tribe team created an innovative opportunity for Energy Matters to reach a mass market audience, promoting our brand in a way that aligned with the values of our business and presenting the public with a range of incredible technology. Plus it was a super fun experience and incredibly well executed.

Roshan Ramnarain

CEO, Energy Matters

We were wanting to understand some high level options for solar energy access that we could provide to customers. The process was easy to understand and apply to our business and agile enough to accommodate working with different and challenging stakeholders. Your research and process made these decisions easier and informed.

Elias

Principal, Climate Projects at IAG

I don’t have a background in business or marketing but I have a huge passion for what I do. A fantastic part of this program is that it pushed me to talk to end users to find out exactly what they need to create more sustainable low carbon developments. The experience was amazing.”

Tanya

Innovator, Curtin University

It is so easy for us to sit on a good idea and not do anything about it. But the Blue Tribe team didn’t allow that to happen. They kept driving us forward.

Dr Floris van Ogtrop

Senior Researcher, University of Sydney

Our researchers focussed on first-class research outcomes but didn’t have the time or opportunity to hone their street smarts to effectively engage with industry and communicate the practical value of their research. The team immersed themselves in our operation, working closely with us and our cohort to develop a tailored and intensive innovation training program which transformed minds, abilities and outcomes.

Impact and Utilisation Manager, Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living

We Get It – Sustainability is Complex

Hi, I’m James McGregor, Founder of The Blue Tribe Company.

For the past 24 years I have worked with amazing entrepreneurs, change-makers, thought leaders and sustainability professionals to create solutions to some of the most challenging environmental and social issues.

Whilst I love what I do, sometimes working in sustainability feels like you are stuck between a rock and someone you want to hit with it!

It can be a very frustrating vocation because you and I both know that we can’t afford change to be slow and incremental. We need to accelerate our impact because of the scale of the issues facing our community.

Over the past 24 years I have observed a number of recurring patterns when it comes to sustainability programs. Most start off with positive beginnings and lots of enthusiasm and then something happens – sustainability programs get stuck, targets get downgraded or pushed back for years. The credibility of the sustainability plan takes a hit and this has long term consequences for all future initiatives.

So, what makes sustainability objectives so difficult to achieve? The answer lies hidden inside companies’ methods and practices.

Most organisations have methods and practices designed for a different era – governance, methods, skills and metrics from a bygone age.

The problem is these practices are not fit for purpose when you are trying new and more complex things like working towards net zero emissions or circular economy outcomes because these old ways do not cope well with new, innovative or disruptive things.

Developing successful sustainability solutions requires a different approach because no one has ever had to solve the scale of problems we are facing today. There is no rule book where you can simply pick a solution that is tried and tested and press go.

That’s where innovation methods and processes come into play. Innovation provides a framework for managing the uncertainty and complexity associated with sustainability.

Of course you can choose to continue to keep doing what you are doing right now (this is a choice), but I believe sustainability is a team sport and that we have a better chance of creating more impact by working together.

I hope you make the right choice by getting in touch and lets GSD (get sh*t done) together and change the world.

James McGregor, Founder
