About Us
We’re in the Business of Doing More Good
Who we are
Think about your biggest sustainability challenge
Whether your thing is reducing carbon emissions, cleaning up the oceans, defending biodiversity, eliminating poverty, making waste circular or some other social or environmental challenge – sustainability is a complex issue.
You’ve probably got ambitious targets like net zero emissions, zero waste or going circular.
But … you are finding that progress is difficult, attracting the right resources and investment is a constant struggle, stakeholders are dug into positions and the status quo feels impossible to change.
Without the right tools many sustainability efforts start off with positive beginnings but eventually get stuck and are unable to scale.
We help clients overcome these challenges everyday.
Whether it’s a new strategy, a policy initiative, a digital transformation, a service delivery innovation, a change to your organisation, or a research need to guide decision-making, we help leaders from the public, private and NGO sectors change things for the better.
To help you tackle challenges, we rely upon a vast toolbox of workshops and programs, with world-leading approaches to design thinking, research, innovation, transformation in complex systems, and even behavioural science.

fun fact
How we got our name
The Blue Tribe Company gets its name from a famous photograph called the “Pale Blue Dot” which was taken by the Voyager 1 space probe when it was 6 billion kiometers away from earth.
The photo shows earth as a tiny blue speck in the vastness of space.
Every person you have every known, loved, admired or been inspired by comes from that little blue planet and it is the only home that we have.
Therefore we are all part of the same tribe that lives on that little blue planet – we are all part of the Blue Tribe.
It is also the only home we have so we had better look after it!
Challenge – can you spot the pale blue dot designed into our logo?

Message from the Founder
Hi, I’m James McGregor, Founder of The Blue Tribe Company.
For the past 24 years I have worked with amazing entrepreneurs, change-makers, thought leaders and sustainability professionals to create solutions to some of the most challenging environmental and social issues.
Whilst I love what I do, sometimes working in sustainability feels like you are stuck between a rock and someone you want to hit with it!
It can be a very frustrating vocation because you and I both know that we can’t afford change to be slow and incremental. We need to accelerate our impact because of the scale of the issues facing our community.
Over the past 24 years I have observed a number of recurring patterns when it comes to sustainability programs. Most start off with positive beginnings and lots of enthusiasm and then something happens – sustainability programs get stuck, targets get downgraded or pushed back for years. The credibility of the sustainability plan takes a hit and this has long term consequences for all future initiatives.
So, what makes sustainability objectives so difficult to achieve? The answer lies hidden inside companies’ methods and practices.
Most organisations have methods and practices designed for a different era – governance, methods, skills and metrics from a bygone age.
The problem is these practices are not fit for purpose when you are trying new and more complex things like working towards net zero emissions or circular economy outcomes because these old ways do not cope well with new, innovative or disruptive things.
Developing successful sustainability solutions requires a different approach because no one has ever had to solve the scale of problems we are facing today. There is no rule book where you can simply pick a solution that is tried and tested and press go.
That’s where innovation methods and processes come into play. Innovation provides a framework for managing the uncertainty and complexity associated with sustainability.
Of course you can choose to continue to keep doing what you are doing right now (this is a choice), but I believe sustainability is a team sport and that we have a better chance of creating more impact by working together.
I hope you make the right choice by getting in touch and lets GSD (get sh*t done) together and change the world.
